Dr. Fonseca is a world-renowned expert in research for the prevention and treatment of diabetic complications, particularly in underprivileged populations. He has been an investigator in several NIH-funded clinical trials and has played a significant role in developing guidelines for treating diabetes. He is Associate Director of Tulane’s COBRE in Aging and Regenerative Medicine, Director of the Louisiana Clinical and Translational Science (LA CaTS) Center Professional Development Core, and Associate Director of the LA CaTS Clinical Research Resources. As Co-PI of REACHnet, a PCORnet that has several completed and ongoing pragmatic trials as well as EHR-based, data-driven analyses, Dr. Fonseca can facilitate access to these and other similar clinical databases. Dr. Fonseca assists the COBRE-SPM MPIs in coordinating the Mentorship Program and serves as Director of the COBRE-SPM Pilot Project Program.
