Research Project Applications
The Tulane Center of Biomedical Research Excellence in Sex-Based Precision Medicine (COBRE-SPM) is seeking three research project leaders to fill our upcoming openings in early 2027. COBRE-SPM provides each Research Project Leaders (RPL) funding of approximately $180,000-$200,000 in direct cost per year to conduct a comprehensive, independent and mentored research project in Sex-Based Precision Medicine.
Eligibility
The applicants must meet the following requirements:
1. Current faculty appointment at Tulane
2. Propose research in the area of SPM
3. Are early-stage investigators or new investigators (ESI/NI) with no prior NIH R01 level or equivalent support
- ESI: completed terminal degree within the past 10 years and never been PI of an NIH independent research award (R01or equivalent)
- NI: never been PI of NIH independent research award (R01or equivalent)
4. Smaller grants/awards are allowed: including all Ks, R00, R03, R15, R16, R21, SCORE
5. May not hold more than one active IDeA award simultaneously
6. Must hold an independent multi-year faculty appointment (or equivalent)
7. Includes tenure-track and other types of multi-year appointments
8. Must be leading independent research program
9. Postdocs and others without independent appointments are not eligible
Program Specifics
1. Commit 50% effort to independent research activities and didactic training (with guidance from the primary mentor and Mentoring Team)
2. Each RPL will have a Mentoring Team comprised of a primary scientific and career mentor with expertise related to their topic of research (at Tulane) and a secondary scientific mentor who balances the scientific, methodological, and professional expertise of the primary mentor.
3. $180K-$200K/year in direct cost
4. 2-year contract with option for 1-year extension based on substantive progress and approval by COBRE-SPM Executive Committee
5. Must submit R01 or equivalent grant by the end of Year 2
