Dr. Steele’s research focuses on pulmonary immunology, host defense against fungal pathogens, and the immune mechanisms underlying fungal-associated lung diseases, including invasive pulmonary aspergillosis, severe asthma with fungal sensitization, and cystic fibrosis. His work examines cytokine signaling, innate immune responses, inflammatory mediators, and biomarkers associated with lung function decline, with an emphasis on translating observations from human disease into mechanistic experimental models. Dr. Steele is Vice President for Research and Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at Tulane University and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology.
